Generate a favicon for your site

I had been searching for long how to generate favicon for my sites. To any novice, i must explain that favicon is mostly a 16x16 pixel .ico file that shows to left of your site address on address bar. It's necessary for branding a site, because a favicon makes the site look out of the crowd.
